Starbucks City Mug India - The India Gate

India is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bound by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan China, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma and Bangladesh. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia. Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four of the world's major religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism - originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also helped shape the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom from the mid-19th century, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi. Following market-based economic reforms in 1991, India became one of the fastest-growing major economies; it is considered a newly industrialised country. However, it continues to face the challenges of poverty, illiteracy, corruption, and inadequate public healthcare. A nuclear weapons state and a regional power, it has the third-largest standing army in the world and ranks eighth in military expenditure among nations. India is a federal constitutional republic governed under a parliamentary system consisting of 28 states and 7 union territories. India is a pluralistic, multilingual, and multiethnic society. It is also home to a diversity of wildlife in a variety of protected habitats.

The India Gate is the national monument of India. Situated in the heart of New Delhi, the India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It was built in 1931. Originally known as the All India War Memorial, it is a prominent landmark in Delhi and commemorates the 90,000 soldiers of the Indian Army who lost their lives while fighting for the Indian Empire, or more correctly the British Raj, in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. It is composed of red and pale sandstone and granite. Originally, a statue of George V of the United Kingdom stood under the now vacant canopy in front of the India Gate, but it was removed to Coronation Park together with other statues. Following India's independence, the India Gate became the site of the Indian Army's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, known as Amar Jawan Jyoti ("the flame of the immortal soldier").

As far as I know,INDIA gate is located in New Delhi, India, and NOT in Indonesia!

argicgr   01 Aug 2012

admin will change Indonesia to India

argicgr   01 Aug 2012

there is no INDIA country in the list of countries. One country MUST be chosen.

mobydick74   01 Aug 2012

Correct. But so far there is no India on Country list. And mug cannot be added if country is not selected. It is mandatory field and choice is only from predefined list. Cannot be input manually. Therefore in order to mark this mug as "Country: India" admin must firstly add "India" to the list. By that time we have to accept Indonesia otherwise mug cannot be added...

I was at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel Starbucks in Mumbai yesterday. They had lots of India mugs there (now they have a bunch less... :-)) ). The staff was very friendly and helpful. Currently only the India mug exists, they are working on getting a tumbler as well and are hoping for a Mumbai mug. The mugs are made in Thailand (c)2012 and still carry the old bottom stamp. The staff also said that the first two shops in Delhi opened a week ago, both located near the India Gate. Mumbai now has 5 stores open.

Admins could you please delete the advertising for sales of Mugs...?

emartins   07 Mar 2013

It's a free market, nobody is forced to buy or sell something, then why delete the comments of someone who wants to sell something? is my idea starbucks gives away free Mugs? We do not want another Cuba more please!

rteestman   07 Mar 2013

I only collect the Global Icon series demitasse mugs. If anyone gets their hands on an extra India set please email me at I have an extensive Starbucks trade list with lots of VERY unique Starbucks items that I would trade for the India demitasse mugs and any other demitasse mugs that I need. I will send the list to you. Thanks!

I have to agree with Wumme on this one,i do not have anything against sellers at all, sometimes i order or buy mugs that were not in stock at the places i visited, but..After 6 posts it's getting a bit annoying i think. In my opinion people will tend to skip this page due to the pollution by advertising and the lack of overview concerning a conversation or discussion.Just my thoughts:)Yes Emartins, it's a free market, but i personally cant stand people shouting and pushing just to sell;)

Wumme0815   09 Mar 2013

I hate it that we can not get some Mugs in the stores as "professionell sellers & trader" buy every Mug they can get and sell them for much too high prices! But as long as some "Muggers" pay these people for their won't stop

rteestman   11 Mar 2013

In regards to India mugs my advice is to be patient. These should end up being very available. The people trying to sell at ridiculously high prices are hoping that eager collectors will not be able to wait. Chill out and wait and you will be happy you did.

Ronald71   11 Mar 2013

This is getting annoying, can you please stop with this advertising?

emartins   11 Mar 2013

BOR... McDonalds ads on TV bother me ! I often feel that some people get jealous or upset because they want to get a Mug and fail because they are not willing to pay a few dollars. TRADEWITHME... With a sufficient notice so we all know that you can sell! With a single ad all know that you can sell!xD

rteestman   11 Mar 2013

I will be contacting the administrators of this site to discuss this. I have no problem with people wanting to sell their mugs ON A SALES SITE! This is a trading it not? This is now the second "collector" or "trader" I have experienced this week that are misleading the site members. If your user name is "tradewithme" why can we only buy the mugs? Why do you have a single mug in your "collection" and why do you need 0 mugs? Where is the TRADE in tradewithme??? I also had communications with "maroom" who states on his/her profile that "I open a store on Aliexpress for trading, [ Link ] I contacted this "collector" and exchanged several emails. He/she led me along making me think he/she would trade with me. The final email said that, no, he will only sell. This is getting out of hand. Here's what I think: Let these people who want to sell mugs PAY for an ad on our site that gives collectors the freedom to do business with them but let's not allow the SPAM advertisements in the comments!!!! A small fee could go towards the administrators of the site.

breinkober   12 Mar 2013

rteestman...i couldn't agree more. Furthermore, I will boycott all those that are only in it for selling on this site.....this is getting out of hand

tonymara   12 Mar 2013

@ all. I've contacted "tradewithme", trying to clarify this. Hope that'll solve this situation.

tonymara   12 Mar 2013

ok, we'll delete the user "tradewithme" and all posts
