The most expensive mug around. On 20 April 2009 it was sold on eBay for GBP 2,050 / USD 3,040. The seller resided in Stone (Staffordshire), United Kingdom.
The mug features a Jambiya, an Arabic dagger. This is a traditional curved sword from the Arabic world. Most countries/sultanates have their own design.

WoW....Dubai !!
Who know what is the picture show on the mug ?
Its called a Jambiya, or an arabic dagger.
Thank you for your answer, Waka ^_^
Gary,
Your next action now is break the piggy bank and bid for this mug, it could be a prototype mug, never been mass produced just like the Blue Tel-aviv (lucky winner) and an old old Jerusalem;). Made in UK.
And you are very welcome indeed.
The Dubai mug sold totay for GBP 2,050.00 on eBay. That's a new record, and quite impressive.
That is indeed impressive. More than 3000 dollars. I hope it is someone from Fred Orange, so we can get a good photo.
i almost......sob, got outbidded by $50.00
Same seller who sold the Blue Tel-Aviv
In the last hour the offer jumped from like GBP200 to GBP1000. That already exceeded my expectations. But than it even doubled in the last minute. Someone from the US has won the auction. It is worth a trip to pick it up in person. What about the risk of damage during transport. Or the import duties. If they are comparable with the Netherlands, you're talking about $750.

Update....on this item. the transaction between the seller and buyer didn't materialize. There was a dispute and to make the long story short, the original owner still have the mug, and the mug continues to search for a happy home. Goodluck to all bidders...
The Minneapolis still retains its record as the highest and most expensive mug......and still is my favorite.
As anticipated... [ Link ]
I really really doubt if it can fetch the same price.....
Why did you say that, it might even go higher this time.
I doubt, IMPULSIVE buying and bidding, the first time something new comes out, everyone wants it. The winner of the mug didn't like it after winning the bid. And then the law of diminishing return kicks in the second time it shows up. People tend to lose interest the second time. As an example the Minneapolis, it will never surpass the price it had before. I am sure everyone have made bids that was way way to high, and if you ask them they wont pay the same amount for the same item the second time around.
I bid for this mug 2000.00 Pounds but if you ask me now if i want it even with a lower price, i wont buy it anymore even with a lower price. Of course that is my personal view and me as an example.
Strange story, that someone had the mug shipped to the US and than it was returned. You may be lucky that the mug survived.
Minneapolis I did: USD 2020.
Minneapolis II did: USD 2000.
Has to Waka's theory of impulsive buying.
Dubai I: 2050.00 Pounds
Dubai II: ??????? for sure lower
Santa Monica I: 83.00
santa Monica II: 42.00
GBP 2050 is more in USD nowadays than it was 2 months ago. More than USD 3000 can hardly be impulsive buying. For many people it is one month salary.
Was the other person shocked by the import duties? I don't even dare to let it shipped by the postal services or courier. Why did the transaction fail anyway?
Scripts from Seller:
dear - - - - - ,
i am offering you the dubai mug.this was sent to the winning bidder in seattle,it took them three weeks to pay and then the payment was put on hold in my paypal account.the day before the funds came of hold(20 more days)they then put a dispute on the item saying that they do not want it.i dont think they ever intended to pay for it.so after 10 weeks i now have the mug back.if you would like this its yours for your highest bid.i wish that you had won this originally as every transaction we have had has been really smooth.
thanks

I thought eBay transactions were legally binding.
Thats what I thought too.
I would not even consider shipping such a mug, while the funds are still in transit.
i agree
could it be the same mug? if it is....then its great i would feel bombed if a second one appears.
I just hate to bid for it for such an amount and find out later its not a prototype.
Great i will try my luck the second time. Enjoy and good luck
I should put a loan for it, or sell my house.
It is the same mug, Joe. Same seller...You will own the one and only DUBAI mug in this planet. Nice mug. I can surely say it will fetch a price and hope one of the members here gets it. GOODLUCK
Yes it is the same mug that gave me sleepless nights. I hope too that it will fetch a good price. I would love to have one of a kidn mug. (crossing fingers)
Well, the Tel-Aviv mug was supposed to be one of kind. Or not? Another member has marked it as being in possession. But it was not as expensive as the Dubai mug.
[ Link ]
I still think the Tel-aviv is ONE of a kind. If you knwo what i mean.
I might be wrong, but the Dubai got up to the price because it got out of control, the bids were "not for keeps" it must have been adrenalin inspired. No wonder it did not find a good home. I really really doubt if it will surpass the same price or even close to it. I will predict, for the hell of it that it will not reached 1,500.00 pounds. ( the original price went up to 2,050.00 pounds). just for kicks....
I completely disagree, this mug is the one and only, i have one too.
Pls. belay my last, i dont really have it. i thought i had one. sorry. i wish i had one
Dubai I went for $3,350.00
Dubai II went for $1,638.00
almost half....good prediction WAKA
Yep, the Dubai mug was sold for just half the price, GBP 1,000.00. Dang, I would have liked it, but couldn't afford that much. I just hope the new owner will put a good picture up here at FredOrange... I hope I'm able to trick FredOrange into a bit better formatting this time... Wow, only 3 bidders, it looks like the first bid was not even challenge until the last seconds. Thats what i call
"grabbing it by the balls", so controlled and professional. I hate those bidders who would come out and start bidding 20 days away from the D-day, like panic buying just to be on the green zone...bah.
Anyways, Great! and congratulation to the winner, i hope its one of the members here.
I thought you had won, since you just missed the last time.
Marcel, No way, I was broke i can't even bid on the initial price. Some other time, maybe, ithought you got it! really.
i thought you were interested so I gave you all the issues about it. When I saw the first bidder, hours or a day before the end, I knew that was not you. Dont know if you bid at all.
No, but I did bid. I put in GBP 999 because that was easier to press fast.
Oh my God, 1 pound. I knew you were lurking in the dark waiting for that last second. But that is classic, 1 pound between you and the winner. Nevertheless, I have so much respect for people who waits and bid at the last second, win or lose. It really annoys me to see bidders react impulsively the minute they see anything they wanted. Oh, well god for the seller, i am selling some items too. So i should not complain. Once again im sorry you didnt get it.
