Next

The Romanian Athenaeum building is considered to be a symbol of Romanian culture and since 2007 is on the list of the Label of European Heritage sights

"Romania" is indeed of Roman origins. The Romanian language is a close relative of Italian, French, Spanish or Portuguese. As opposed to the neighbouring countries which are predominantly Slawic.

The Bucharest symbol is the "Romanian Athenaeum".

The building was designed by the French architect Albert Galleron, and was inaugurated in 1888. A portion of the construction funds was raised by public subscription in a 28-year long effort, of which the slogan is still remembered today: "Spend one leu for the Ateneu!"

The Athenaeum is a landmark of Bucharest and still serves as a concert hall. The building was extensively renovated in the '90s.For more details, check out the following link: [ Link ]
