Dongguan is a prefecture-level city in central Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. An important industrial city located in the Pearl River Delta, Dongguan borders the provincial capital of Guangzhou to the north, Huizhou to the northeast, Shenzhen to the south, and the Pearl River to the west. It is also home to the world's largest, though mostly empty, shopping mall, New South China Mall. City administration is considered especially progressive in seeking foreign direct investment. The three neighboring municipalities of Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen are home to over 25 million residents, accounting for a large proportion of the Pearl River Delta Region's population.

Opium War Museum is a memorial museum which collects, exhibits, and researches the cultural relics and historical data about Lin Zexu and the Opium War. The most important are Lin Zexu’s Opium Burning Pool and Humen Fortresses, which are under the key national-level protection.
The museum has beautiful surroundings and distinctive exterior architectural style. The front gate of the museum is castle-like. At the entrance, there is a large pink statuary featuring several heroes, those in the middle holding firmly falchions or halberds, staring angrily at the enemy, and two at the side holding a cannon, ready to attack. This faithfully describes the people who fought bravely against western invaders in the Opium War.
