Liège is a major city and municipality of Belgium located in the province of Liège, of which it is the economic capital, in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium. The city is situated in the valley of the Meuse River, in the east of Belgium, not far from this country's borders with the Netherlands and with Germany. At Liège the Meuse river meets the river Ourthe. The city was part of the former "sillon industriel", the industrial backbone of Wallonia. It still is the principal economic and cultural centre of this region. Liège ranks as the third most populous urban area in Belgium, after Brussels and Antwerp, and the fourth municipality after Antwerp, Ghent and Charleroi.

The ‘Perron’ on the Place du Marché is the most well-known monument of Liège. Its fame has more to do with the fact that it stands for the freedom of the Liège people than its beauty. Every person from Liège knows about this monument and it’s location. In the past of Liège, four main streets came together at this spot. On the fountain on top you can recognize the three Graces that are holding a pinecone and a cross. After Liège was destroyed by Charles the Bold in 1468, the monument was moved to Bruges. In 1478, it was given back to the city of Liège by his daughter Maria of Burgundy.

The mug has mistakenly showed up in Karlsruhe Starbucks store in March 2014 in number of 4 and in Cologne airport as well. Starbucks Belgium denies any opening of new store in Liège by today....
